There’s not much to know about hardwood floor cleaning products. Besides the mandatory non abrasive dust mop and soft bristled broom, you’ll only need a few appropriate products for the type of floor and finish installed in your home.
It’s common to hear some people say you can use vinegar to clean up your floor. However, some manufacturers argue its acidity can eventually damage the finish. To be on the safe side, you better stick to using approved cleaning products. If you don’t know what type of finish you have on your floors, there are some simple tests you can make to determine its type (or you can ask for professional assistance). For instance, some types of cleaners should not be used on waxed floors, or unfinished wood – you need to double check it first.
When using new cleaning products, it’s always best to try a small portion in a small hidden area of floor (behind a door, or in a place usually covered by furniture or a rug). Don’t ever make the mistake of using it on the entire surface before testing it first. Using the wrong product can severely damage your floor. Once you find the best product for your type of floor finish, regular cleaning and mopping will allow you to maintain its original look for a long time without much effort.
