Laminate hardwood floor is becoming increasingly used throughout the world. Although it offers the same visual appeal as real hardwood floor, a laminate floor is not completely made of real wood. Even so, it is extremely scratch and impact resistant, and it also offers some other advantages over solid wood flooring.
Being composed of engineered composite materials, it has a thin layer of wood, usually protected by a resistant layer of clear protective finish. Of course, they can still be scratched if you drag a heavy object over it – and as you can’t easily repair a scratch on it, you better take the necessary precautions so you don’t damage it. On the plus side, it can be quickly and easily assembled, and requires little effort to keep clean and looking good. You don’t need to wax it or polish it.
Choosing between a solid wood flooring and laminate is a choice only you can make. Both have advantages and disadvantages. With the new composite material and protective coatings laminate hardwood floors can often offer a lot of advantages at a much cheaper price than solid wood flooring, that’s why it has become such a great success in the past few years. It might very well be the right choice for you too.
