Repair squeaky wood floors, stepping into silence
. .
Repair squeaky wood floors. If theres anything every hardwood floor owner has thought about, one time or another, its how to repair squeaky wood floors. Although wood floors indeed provide many advantages, when they start to squeak, it can quickly become a great annoyance. Thankfully, that problem can be fixed.
Depending on the type of your wood floor, it can be an easy task, or take some extra work to achieve absolute silence. Usually, the squeaking noise is caused by friction of two moving surfaces: one being the floor, depressed by the weight of the person walking on it, and the other being either a support joist or a loose floor board. In both cases, youll need to fill the gaps or tighten the floorboards.
In most cases, inserting shims between the floor joist and the sub-floor or fastening a sister joist, requires you to access the floor boards from below. If that isnt possible, you can resort to nail the floorboard from above and use putty to cover the nail holes. Thats the easiest solution for most cases. In just a few minutes youll be able to let that squeaky floor be a long gone memory.
